Cost Module Overview

The Cost Module in Mastt provides a complete financial overview of your project, allowing you to track budgets, contracts, variations, forecasts, and risks in one integrated system. The Overall page displays your project's financial status with budgets, contracts, variations, and forecasts organized hierarchically, making it easy to monitor your financial position.

Use the Overall page in the Cost Module to see your project's finances in one place. You can read the key financial columns and calculations, add and manage budgets, contracts, forecasts, variations and payments, and customise your view with filters and display options.

Before you start

  • You need access to a Mastt project.
  • A basic understanding of project financial concepts and familiarity with Mastt navigation will help.

Understand the page structure

The Overall page shows a hierarchical view of your project finances.

Click the arrow next to any item to expand or collapse its contents. This lets you drill down into specific areas of interest.

Read the financial columns

Hover over any column header to see the formula used for the calculation.

Budget columns

Contract columns

Forecast columns

UncommittedUnapproved contracts, variations, forecasts, and risks
Forecast Final Cost (FFC)Current contract plus uncommitted
VarianceBudget minus FFC. Green indicates positive variance (under budget). Red indicates negative variance (over budget).

To see what makes up Uncommitted, click Columns and turn on Pending Contracts, Unapproved Variations (Forecast and Pending variations), Forecasts and Risks.

Payment columns

ColumnWhat it shows
Total PaidSum of all payments made
Amount RemainingFFC minus Paid, Approved and Submitted Payments and Total Retained
FTC (Forecast to Complete)FFC minus Paid Payments. Retention stays in the FFC.

You can turn on other payment columns in Columns: Payment Progress, Total Paid + Approved, Total Submitted, Total Approved, Total Retained and Payment Percentage Complete.

Add and manage items

You can add items from the three-dot menus or from the Add button at the top of the page.

Click the three dots next to any item to see its available actions.

When you use a three-dot menu, Mastt pre-selects the relevant budget, contract or variation. This saves time compared to the top Add button, which requires manual selection.

Use the Add button

Click Add at the top of the page to add a:

  • Budget
  • Contract
  • Forecast
  • Variation
  • Payment

Report, export and customise your view

OptionWhat it does
Create ReportGenerates a standard report in the dashboard. You can export and edit this report as needed.
ExportExports either the current view or all data, as a CSV file
Expand All / Collapse AllChanges the view's level of detail
Reset ViewReturns the view to default settings
ColumnsSelects which columns to display
FilterShows only data that meets specific criteria
Cog iconAdjusts decimal places and denomination (for example, thousands or millions)

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to try
Data is missingMake sure you've expanded all relevant sections.
I can't add itemsCheck that you have the appropriate permissions.
There's too much data on screenUse filters and column selection to focus on the relevant information.

Tip: The Overall page gives you a comprehensive financial snapshot of your project. Reviewing it regularly helps you spot potential budget issues early and manage finances proactively.
