How to Create a Project Schedule

Complete guide to schedule creation and management for construction project managers

The Schedule Module helps you create and manage project timelines using three flexible methods: importing existing schedules, using pre-built templates, or building activities manually. Choose the method that best fits your project setup and existing documentation.

Before you start:

  • Ensure you have project access in Mastt
  • For imports: Prepare your .xml (MS Project) or .xer (Primavera P6) files

 

Steps

Access the Schedule Module

  1. Navigate to your project
  2. Using the navigation toolbar, click Schedule Module

Method 1: Import Schedule

  1. Drag and drop your schedule file into the upload area, or click to browse
  2. Select your file type:
    • MS Project: Use .xml files
    • Primavera P6: Use .xer files
  3. Click Import
  4. Review the imported milestones and activities in the preview
  5. Click Import to confirm when satisfied with the data
  6. Click Save to finalize the imported schedule

Overwrite Existing Schedule

You can easily update your schedule by uploading a new one and choosing to overwrite the existing schedule.

  1. From the Schedule module, click the Import button
  2. Choose the file type and upload your new schedule file
  3. When prompted, confirm if you want to overwrite the existing schedule

Method 2: Use Schedule Template

  1. Click Use Templates
  2. Choose between:
    • Standard Project Template
    • Standard Construction Template
  3. Select your project start date
  4. Click Import Template
  5. Review and customize the template activities as needed
  6. Click Save when finished

Method 3: Create Activities Manually

  1. Click + Activity
  2. Complete the activity details:
    • Activity name
    • Project phases
    • Status
    • Start date
    • Baseline completion date
    • Planned completion date
    • Tasks
    • Comments (Save activity first to add comments)
  3. Toggle Start of Project if this activity marks project commencement
  4. Toggle Completion if this activity marks project completion for tracking
  5. Select an activity icon if desired
  6. Click Save
  7. Repeat steps for additional activities using + Add Activity

Edit Individual Activities

  1. Click the activity you want to edit
  2. A form will appear on the right-hand side of your schedule page
  3. Make the necessary edits to the activity details
  4. Click Save when completed

Reorder Activities:

  1. Click and hold on the grab bar and drag the activity to the desired position
  2. Click Save to confirm the changes.

Delete Individual Activities

  1. Locate the activity you want to delete
  2. Click the Delete icon for that activity
  3. A dialog box will open
  4. Click Delete Activity to confirm and proceed

Bulk Edit

  1. Use checkboxes to select activities you want to move forward or back 
  2. Click Bulk Edit
  3. Select your action (Move Dates, Status, Set Phase, Delete, you can also use Select all or Unselect All)
  4. Customize the form to match your required changes
  5. Click Save to apply all changes

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: Import fails with file error. Solution: Ensure your file is in .xml (MS Project) or .xer (Primavera P6) format and not corrupted
  • Problem: The Template doesn't match the project needs. Solution: Import the closest template, then manually add or remove activities as required
