How to Use the Mastt AI Project Assistant with Documents

Complete workflow guide for document analysis in construction project management

Upload PDF documents to the Mastt AI Project Assistant and get instant insights about contracts, reports, specifications, and other construction files. This feature helps you quickly extract key information without manually reviewing lengthy PDF documents.

Before you start:

  • Ensure you're logged into a project workspace
  • Have your PDF document ready
  • Consider what specific information you want to extract

Steps

Access Mastt AI

  1. Click the Mastt AI icon in the left sidebar navigation
  2. The AI assistant interface opens with chat options
  3. Choose "Start with a document" or type in your query inside the "Ask anything" box if you want to upload later

Upload your document

  1. Click the "Upload Document (PDF)" option in the chat interface
  2. Select your PDF file from your computer
  3. Wait for the upload to complete - you'll see the PDF document appear at the bottom of the chat box. During this process our AI processes the document and prepares it for fast responses. This process may take a few minutes for larger files.

Analyze your document

  1. The AI automatically provides suggested actions like:
    • "Help me understand this document"
    • "What are the key dates relating to this document?"
    • "Who are the key stakeholders on this document?"
  2. You can also ask specific queries about your uploaded file, such as contract terms, budget figures, or timeline details
  3. Click on any suggested action or type your own specific question
  4. Review the AI's analysis and ask follow-up questions as needed

Manage your chat history

  1. Access the hamburger menu (three lines) to view navigation options
  2. Use the "New Chat" button (blue circle with + icon) to start fresh conversations
  3. Click "Recent" to see your conversation history
  4. Delete old chats by clicking the trash icon next to any conversation

Q&A

Q: What if the AI doesn't understand my document properly?

Try asking more specific questions about particular sections or rephrase your query. The AI works better with targeted questions than broad requests. In some cases the document may have been processed incorrectly, try to upload the document again and see if responses improve.

Q: Why can't I see my uploaded document in other chats?

Documents are specific to each chat session. To start a chat with the same document, either go back to an existing chat with that document attached from the history or start a new chat and select the document to be included.

Each document uploaded to the AI Project Assistant can be seen by other users on that project. It will also be stored in the project Documents Module.

Q: How do I delete the documents/files I've uploaded?

To delete a file from the AI Project Assistant, go to the Documents Module and use the trash icon to delete that file. You should be able to find it by the file name.

It is good practice to delete the chat thread before or after deletion of the related document as it may cause errors to chat in a thread where the document is now deleted.

Q: What happens if I upload a large document?

The AI can process large documents/files but this process will take longer. Expect the upload process to take a few minutes for very large documents. The AI should not take much longer to respond on large documents, but you may expect a small increase in response delay as the AI reviews a larger scope of content.
