How to Add and Configure Big Number Tiles

Complete step-by-step guide to displaying key cost metrics on your Project or Program Dashboard

Big Number tiles are visual elements that display single key metrics prominently on your Dashboard. Use them to showcase critical project financials like Total Budget, Current Contract value, Forecast Final Cost, or custom calculations. Tiles can pull data automatically from the Cost module or accept custom manual values, giving you instant visibility into project financials.

This guide covers adding tiles, configuring data sources, setting up currency symbols, and managing your tiles.

Before you start

  • To display Cost module data, ensure cost information has been entered
  • To set up currency symbols, you need access to Project or Program Settings

How to Add a Big Number Tile

Step 1: Navigate to Your Dashboard

  • Click Dashboard from the side navigation bar within a Project or Program

Step 2: Open the Tile Library

  • Click the + Add Tiles button in the top right area of the Dashboard
  • The Tile Library opens, showing all available tile types including Big Number, Chart, Table, and Text tiles

Step 3: Add the Big Number Tile

  • Scroll through the Tile Library to locate the Big Number tile
  • Click + Add Tile on the Big Number tile card
  • The tile appears on your Dashboard with placeholder text or zeros until configured

Step 4: Close the Tile Library

  • Click the X at the top right of the Tile Library panel to close it

How to Configure a Big Number Tile

Step 1: Access Tile Settings

  • Click the Action button (⋮) in the top right corner of the tile
  • Select Settings from the dropdown menu

Step 2: Select Your Data Source

Under Which number?, choose one of two options:

  • Custom: Enter a manual value for numbers not directly from the Cost module, such as external funding amounts or target values.

  • Cost module metrics: Select from values like Budget, Current Contract, Forecast Final Cost, Approved Contracts, or Variance. These values update automatically as your project data changes.

When you select a Cost module metric, additional filter fields appear:

    • Which Budget? Filter by a specific budget if you have multiple budgets
    • Which Budget Tag? Filter by a budget tag to display data for a specific category

Step 3: Add Mathematical Operations (Optional)

Use the Subtract or Add dropdown to combine with another number. When you add a second number, you can also filter it by specific budgets and budget tags.

Step 4: Configure Display Settings

  • Heading: Enter a descriptive title to display above the number (e.g., "Remaining Budget")
  • Denominations: Select how the number is abbreviated:
    • None – shows full number (e.g., 5,000,000)
    • Thousands – shows in thousands (e.g., 5,000K)
    • Millions – shows in millions (e.g., 5M)
  • Decimal Places: Set the number of decimal places to display (up to 20)
  • Colour: Select a background colour to visually categorise different metrics

Step 5: Enable Currency Symbol (Optional)

  • Toggle Show Currency Symbol on to display your project's currency symbol (e.g., $5.00M)

The currency symbol must be set at the project or program level first. See the next section for instructions.

Step 6: Save Your Configuration

  • Click Save to apply changes

Result: The tile now displays your configured data with the selected formatting

How To Set Up Currency Symbols

Currency symbols are configured at the project or program level, not at the tile level. Once set, the symbol is available for all tiles and financial displays throughout the project.

Setting Currency Symbols at the Project Level

Step 1: Navigate to Settings

Access Settings using one of these methods:

  • From the Home Page: Click the Action button (three dots) on your Project or Program tile and select Project Settings or Program Settings
  • From inside the project or program: Click Settings in the left-hand side navigation bar
Step 2: Access Project or Program Information
  • Click Project Information or Program Information in the settings menu

Step 3: Set Your Currency Symbol

Locate the Currency Symbol field and choose one of two options:

  • Select from dropdown: Choose a standard symbol such as $ (Dollar), £ (Pound), or € (Euro)
  • Type a custom symbol: Enter any custom currency notation (e.g., AUD, NZD)
Step 4: Save Your Changes
  • Click Save

Result: A confirmation message appears, and the currency symbol is now available throughout the project

Setting Currency Symbols at the Program Level

Step 1: Navigate to the Program Dashboard
  • Click Programs in the left sidebar
  • Click the Action button (three dots) on your Program tile
  • Select Dashboard from the dropdown
Step 2: Open Dashboard Settings
  • Click the Action button in the top right corner of the Dashboard
  • Select Settings
Step 3: Enable the Currency Symbol
  • Toggle on Show Currency Symbol for all Tiles
  • Click Done

How to Enable Currency Symbols on Tiles

Once your project currency symbol is configured, you can enable it on individual tiles or across all tiles at once.

Enable on Individual Tiles

Step 1: Click the Three Dots icon on a Big Number tile
Step 2: Select Settings
Step 3: Scroll to the Show currency symbol toggle and turn it on
Step 4: Click Save

Repeat this process for each tile where you want the currency symbol displayed.

Enable for All Tiles at Once

This method is faster when you have multiple tiles and want consistent currency display.

Step 1: Click the Action button in the upper left area of the Dashboard page
Step 2: Select Dashboard Settings
Step 3: Toggle Show currency symbol for all tiles on
Step 4: Click Done

Result: All Big Number tiles on the Dashboard now display the currency symbol.

How to Manage Big Number Tiles

All tile management actions are accessed through the Action button on each tile.

Editing Underlying Data

Click the Action button and select Edit. Mastt navigates to the related Cost module section where the underlying data lives. Make your changes to the actual project data, then return to the Dashboard to see updated values on the tile.

Edit changes the actual project data, not the tile settings. This is how tiles stay synchronised with your project's financial information.

Duplicating a Tile

Click the Action button and select Duplicate Tile. A copy of the tile appears with identical settings. Configure the duplicated tile as needed through its Settings.

Duplicating is useful for creating tiles with similar styling but different data, such as a set of budget tiles all in the same colour showing different budget categories.

Downloading a Tile as an Image

Click the Action button and select Download Tile. The tile downloads as an image file (PNG) that you can insert into presentations, documents, or reports.

Removing a Tile

Click the Action button and select Remove Tile, then confirm the removal if prompted.

Removing a tile only removes the visual element from the Dashboard. The underlying data in the Cost module remains completely intact. If you need the tile back, add a new Big Number tile from the Tile Library and configure it again.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: Why isn't my currency symbol showing on the tile?

Check that the currency symbol is configured in Project Settings under Project Information. Then ensure the toggle is enabled in either the individual tile settings or Dashboard Settings.

Q: Can I show different currencies on different tiles?

No. All Big Number tiles display the currency symbol set at the project level. For multi-currency projects, consider using the tile heading to clarify the currency.

Q: How do I create a tile that shows Budget minus Total Paid?

In the tile settings, select your Budget metric under Which number?, then use the subtract option and select Total Paid. The tile displays the calculated difference.

Q: Will removing a tile delete my project data?

No. Removing a tile only removes the visual element from the Dashboard. All underlying data in the Cost module remains intact.

Q: Why does my new tile show zeros or placeholder text?

Tiles appear with placeholder data until configured. Click the Three Dots icon, select Settings, and configure your data source to display actual values.
